I’m a displaced Washingtonian (the state, not the city) currently living in the wonderful city of Austin, TX. It’s turned out to be much less of a culture shock than I originally anticipated: it’s sort of a West Coast town that’s got some Texas-culture infusion. For example: wearing jeans to work is normal; so is 200,000 people descending on 5 square blocks of downtown to tailgate University of Texas football games.
At twenty-three years, I haven’t had a great deal of world experience, but I like to feel like I’m slowing accumulating some. I’m a college grad who double-majored in philosophy and physics, and I’ve jumped back into academia this fall and am pursuing a MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
I have definitely been trying to post in the areas of my twin loves, philosophy and science; but as anyone who has browsed through the archives can see, most of my blogging has to do with politics and policy. Staying current with politics is sort of my pet project: one that brings me a lot of pleasure, but one in which I have no expertise what-so-ever. So if when I say something incoherent or blatantly contradictory… please, call me on it. For full disclosure (since I do post polictical topics): I consider myself to be to the left on social issues and fiscally moderate.
